Home . About . THE KITCHEN

The Kitchen is a relaxed and inspiring space - a perfect oasis from the chaos and busyness of Bristol City Centre. Anyone’s welcome to drop in.

We've got a daytime menu crammed with top notch locally sourced food and drinks for every occasion - whether you're after a quick snack, a bit of brekkie or lunch with friends.

We're also proud to be serving locally blended and roasted coffee from Extract and some of the best teas in the land from The Tea Emporium.

And the best bit is that while your taste buds are having the time of their lives, you can also feel good knowing that The Kitchen also exists to offer volunteering, training and employment opportunities to young people who have faced real difficulties in life. So by buying a coffee from us you are supporting these young people to live full lives and fulfil their potential.

Our DNA:
The Kitchen is a "social enterprise" run by Bristol YMCA.  When we say "social enterprise" we mean a model of doing business where all the profits we make are invested into benefitting the community.  In this case we are investing in young people in Bristol who have faced difficult situations in life - maybe they have been homeless, have been "in care" or have struggled to fit into the formal education system.  Through the business at The Kitchen we offer these young people opportunities to learn skills and develop their confidence so they can live full lives and fulfil their potential.  This is through formal training experiences and on the job training in the catering, events and hospitality industry but also through one to one youth work support that gives time and space for the young people to be nurtured and valued.

The YMCA is the biggest and oldest youth charity in the world, and we in Bristol are proud to be part of it!  We're an inclusive Christian movement which believes in developing communities where young people truly belong, contribute and thrive.  Following a recent merger Bristol YMCA is now part of Bath YMCA which operates a range of community services in the West of England area.  For more information go to www.bathymca.co.uk.

Opportunities for Young People:
We will be launching our training and opportunity programme in January.  Watch this space for more information.

Open Kitchen:

Open Kitchen gives you the chance to "suspend" food and drink at the cafe - which can then be given free of charge to another customer at a later date.  You may have seen on Facebook and Twitter recently the global phenomenon of "Suspended Coffees", which we think is an utterly brilliant idea - so much so we've decided to make it possible at The Kitchen.
